村の渡(わた)しの　船頭さんは
今年六十の　お爺(じい)さん
年はとっても　お船をこぐ時は
元気いっぱい櫓(ろ)がしなる
ソレ　ギッチラギッチラ　ギッチラコ

　The ferryman of the village ferry crossing 　
Is an old man of sixty this year 　
Though he grows older, he's full of vigour
 　With age his oar blade gets even more supple
Yo-ho! Listen to the ferry boat creak!

雨の降る日も　岸から岸へ
ぬれて船こぐ　お爺さん
今朝(けさ)もかわいい　仔馬(こうま)を二匹(にひき)
向う牧場(まきば)へ　乗せてった
ソレ　ギッチラギッチラ　ギッチラコ

 Even on rainy days from shore to shore
 　 You'll see the old man working on the ferry
This morning he ferried two handsome, frisky colts
To the grazing land across the river
Yo-ho! Listen to the ferry boat creak!



３．
川はきらきら　さざなみ小波(こなみ)
渡す　にこにこお爺さん
みんなにこにこ　ゆれゆれ渡る
どうも御苦労(ごくろう)さんと　いって渡る
ソレ　ギッチラギッチラ　ギッチラコ

　The river sparkles, shimmers, continuously ripples
The ferryman works on with a smiling face
Everyone, swayed by the gentle wind, looks so happy
And they all say thanks to the old ferryman
Yo-ho! Listen to the ferry boat creak!
